Method

Step-by-Step Instructions for Easy Tanghulu
  1. Begin by carefully washing your chosen fruits under cool running water. Pat them dry to remove excess moisture, then skewer them onto bamboo skewers.
  2. In a medium-sized pot, combine 2 cups of granulated sugar and 1 cup of water. Heat over medium, stirring until sugar dissolves. Do not stir once it simmers. Boil for about 10-15 minutes until syrup reaches 300°F.
  3. Dip a wooden skewer into the hot syrup and plunge in cold water. If it hardens quickly, it's ready. If not, boil a few more minutes.
  4. Tilt the saucepan and lower each fruit skewer into the hot syrup, rotating for an even coating. Allow excess syrup to drip back into the pot.
  5. Prepare an ice bath and place the dipped skewers in it to set the syrup quickly, about 1-2 minutes. Transfer to a parchment-lined baking sheet and enjoy immediately.
