Ingredients

For the Bread Bowl
  • 1 loaf Sourdough Bread Choose a thick loaf for durability.
For the Filling
  • 0.5 lb Cooked Shrimp Ensure shrimp is cooked and cooled before mixing.
  • 0.5 lb Lump Crab Meat Opt for fresh or high-quality canned varieties.
  • 1 cup Shredded Mozzarella Cheese Feel free to substitute with cheddar for a different twist.
  • 0.5 cup Cream Cheese Softened; mascarpone can elevate the richness.
  • 0.33 cup Mayonnaise Greek yogurt is a lighter alternative.
  • 0.25 cup Green Onions Finely chopped; chives work too for a milder flavor.
  • 2 cloves Garlic Minced; garlic powder can be used in a pinch.
  • 1 tsp Old Bay Seasoning A classic seafood spice that elevates complexity.
  • 0.5 tsp Smoked Paprika Introduces a subtle smoky profile.
  • 1 tbsp Lemon Juice Brightens the entire flavor profile.

Equipment

  • Oven
  • Mixing bowl
  • Baking Sheet
  • Sharp Knife
  • Spatula

Method

Steps to Prepare
  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F. Hollow out the sourdough bread bowl, leaving about an inch of thick bread on the sides and bottom.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine the softened cream cheese and mayonnaise until smooth. Add in the shredded mozzarella, green onions, minced garlic, Old Bay seasoning, smoked paprika, and lemon juice, stirring well.
  3. Gently fold in the cooked shrimp and lump crab meat into the creamy filling without breaking the seafood pieces.
  4. Spoon the seafood mixture into the hollowed bread bowl. Place on a baking sheet and bake for 20-25 minutes until golden brown and bubbling.
  5. Remove from the oven and let cool slightly. Garnish with extra green onions and serve warm with reserved bread chunks and crackers.
