Ingredients
  

For the Tofu
  • 16 oz Super Firm High-Protein Tofu Firm or extra-firm can work in a pinch.
  • 2 tbsp Olive or Avocado Oil Essential for roasting.
  • 1 ts Sea Salt
For the Sauce
  • 4 tbsp Maple Syrup Feel free to use honey if not concerned with veganism.
  • 4 tbsp Tamari or Soy Sauce Choose gluten-free tamari if needed.
  • 2 tbsp Rice Vinegar
  • 2 tbsp Toasted Sesame Oil
  • 1 ts Red Pepper Flakes Adjust based on spice preference.
  • 2 cloves Garlic (Grated or Pressed)
For Thickening and Coating
  • 2 tbsp Cornstarch
  • 2 tbsp Water To create a slurry.
  • 2 tbsp Sesame Seeds For added crunch.
Optional Garnishes
  • 2 tbsp Thinly Sliced Green Onions
  • 2 cups Brown or White Rice Perfect for absorbing sauce.
  • 2 cups Steamed Broccoli Nutritious side.

Method
 

Step-by-Step Instructions
  1. Prepare rice or steam broccoli as a complement to the Sesame Tofu.
  2. Preheat oven to 425°F (218°C). Crumble the tofu into 1/2 to 1 inch pieces, spread on baking sheet, drizzle with oil, sprinkle with salt, and bake for 20-25 minutes.
  3. In a medium saucepan, combine maple syrup, tamari or soy sauce, rice vinegar, sesame oil, red pepper flakes, and garlic. Simmer for about 5 minutes.
  4. Mix cornstarch and water in a small bowl to create a slurry. Add to sauce while stirring until it thickens for about 3 minutes.
  5. Combine crispy tofu with the thickened sauce in a large bowl, gently tossing to coat the tofu well.
  6. Serve the Sesame Tofu with rice and steamed broccoli. Garnish with green onions if desired.

Notes

Pressing tofu for 10-15 minutes removes moisture for a crispier finish. Adjust the sauce sweetness and spice to your taste. Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to 3 days.
