Step-by-Step Instructions for Savory Salisbury Steak
- In a large mixing bowl, combine 1 pound of lean ground beef, ½ cup of bread crumbs, ¼ cup of ketchup, 1 tablespoon of mustard, 2 teaspoons of Worcestershire sauce, 1 teaspoon garlic powder, 1 teaspoon onion powder, and a pinch of salt and pepper. Mix gently until fully combined. Shape the mixture into four equal patties, about ¾-inch thick.
- Preheat a large skillet over medium heat for about 1-2 minutes until hot. Add 1 tablespoon of olive oil and swirl until it shimmers. Place the beef patties in the skillet without overcrowding.
- Cook the patties for 4-5 minutes on one side, then flip them over and reduce the heat slightly. Cook for another 4-5 minutes until fully cooked through.
- Meanwhile, whisk together the brown gravy mix with 1 cup of hot water in a separate bowl until smooth. Optionally add more ketchup and Worcestershire sauce to taste.
- Pour the prepared gravy mixture over the cooked patties in the skillet. Reduce heat to low and simmer for 3-5 minutes until the gravy thickens and clings to the patties.

Notes
Avoid overmixing and don't overcrowd the skillet for better results. Customize flavors with different sauces or mustards.
