Step-by-Step Instructions for Savory Salisbury Steak
  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine 1 pound of lean ground beef, ½ cup of bread crumbs, ¼ cup of ketchup, 1 tablespoon of mustard, 2 teaspoons of Worcestershire sauce, 1 teaspoon garlic powder, 1 teaspoon onion powder, and a pinch of salt and pepper. Mix gently until fully combined. Shape the mixture into four equal patties, about ¾-inch thick.
  2. Preheat a large skillet over medium heat for about 1-2 minutes until hot. Add 1 tablespoon of olive oil and swirl until it shimmers. Place the beef patties in the skillet without overcrowding.
  3. Cook the patties for 4-5 minutes on one side, then flip them over and reduce the heat slightly. Cook for another 4-5 minutes until fully cooked through.
  4. Meanwhile, whisk together the brown gravy mix with 1 cup of hot water in a separate bowl until smooth. Optionally add more ketchup and Worcestershire sauce to taste.
  5. Pour the prepared gravy mixture over the cooked patties in the skillet. Reduce heat to low and simmer for 3-5 minutes until the gravy thickens and clings to the patties.
