Ingredients
  

For the Filling
  • 2 tablespoons butter or olive oil
  • 1 medium onion chopped
  • 1 pound lean ground beef or lamb
  • 1 tablespoon Italian seasoning or a mix of oregano and basil
  • 2 tablespoons tomato paste or ketchup
  • 2 tablespoons flour or cornstarch for gluten-free
  • 1 cup beef broth or vegetable broth
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce or soy sauce

  • 2 cups frozen mixed vegetables peas, carrots, and corn
For the Topping
  • 1 bag frozen tater tots

Method
 

Cooking Instructions
  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Melt 2 tablespoons of butter in a skillet over medium-high heat. Add the chopped onion and sauté for 5 minutes.
  3. Add 1 pound of lean ground beef (or lamb) and cook for 6-8 minutes until browned.
  4. Stir in 1 tablespoon of Italian seasoning, 2 tablespoons of tomato paste, and 2 tablespoons of flour, mixing well.
  5. Pour in 1 cup of beef broth and 1 tablespoon of Worcestershire sauce. Cook for 1 minute until thickened.
  6. Add 2 cups of frozen mixed vegetables and cook for 3 minutes, mixing well.
  7. Transfer the mixture into a 9x13-inch baking dish and smooth it out evenly.
  8. Arrange 1 bag of frozen tater tots over the filling evenly.
  9. Bake uncovered for about 40 minutes, until bubbly and golden brown.
  10. Optionally, broil for a few minutes for extra crunch, then let sit before serving.
