Coating
  • 1 cup Green candy melts For vibrant color and delicious coating; substitute with green chocolate chips mixed with coconut oil if unavailable.
  • 1 cup Creamy peanut butter Adds richness and flavor; can be replaced with SunButter for a nut-free option.
  • 2 tablespoons Vegetable or coconut oil Helps achieve a smooth coating consistency; no substitutions needed.
Coating Sugar
  • 1 cup Powdered sugar Offers sweetness and is the finishing touch for coating; adjust the amount for desired sweetness.
Festive Add-Ins
  • 1 cup Green M&Ms Adds color and a sweet crunch; any green candy can be used as a substitute.
  • 1/2 cup Shamrock sprinkles For decoration and festive flair; can be omitted or substituted with other themed sprinkles.
  • 1 cup Lucky Charms shamrock marshmallows Provide fun and thematic appeal; pick out the green ones from regular Lucky Charms as an alternative.

Equipment

  • Microwave-safe bowl
  • Gallon-sized zip-top bag
  • Parchment Paper
  • Baking Sheet

Method

Step-by-Step Instructions
  1. In a microwave-safe bowl, combine green candy melts, creamy peanut butter, and vegetable or coconut oil. Heat the mixture in the microwave on HIGH for 30 seconds. Remove and stir thoroughly, then continue microwaving in 15-second intervals until it's smooth and fully melted.
  2. Fold in the Rice Chex cereal gently until each piece is evenly coated. Be careful not to crush the cereal; you want to maintain its crunch!
  3. Transfer the coated cereal into a gallon-sized zip-top bag. Add a generous amount of powdered sugar, sealing the bag tightly. Shake the bag vigorously until the cereal is fully coated with the sweet sugar.
  4. Spread the coated cereal mixture onto a parchment-lined baking sheet. Allow it to cool for 5–10 minutes at room temperature.
  5. Once cooled, transfer the Puppy Chow into a large bowl and mix in the green M&Ms, shamrock sprinkles, and Lucky Charms shamrock marshmallows. Gently toss everything together.
