Method
 

Step‑by‑Step Instructions
  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C) and grease a 9x13-inch casserole dish.
  2. Brown 1 lb of ground beef in a large skillet over medium heat for 7-10 minutes.
  3. Add diced onion, chopped bell pepper, and minced garlic; sauté for 5 minutes.
  4. In a mixing bowl, combine 1 can of cream of mushroom soup with 1 cup of sour cream; season with salt and pepper.
  5. Layer half of 2-3 sliced russet potatoes in the greased dish, seasoning with salt and pepper.
  6. Spread half of the beef mixture and half of the creamy sauce over the potatoes; repeat layering.
  7. Top with 1 cup of cheddar cheese and bake for 30-35 minutes until golden and bubbly.
  8. Sprinkle French fried onions on top and bake for an additional 5 minutes.
