Cooking Steps
  1. Begin by washing the mushrooms under cool water. Pat them dry and slice into 1/4-inch rounds.
  2. Combine flour, salt, and black pepper in a bowl.
  3. If using, whisk the egg and milk together in a separate bowl.
  4. Coat each mushroom slice in flour, optional egg mixture, and again in flour or breadcrumbs.
  5. Heat vegetable oil in a skillet to 350°F.
  6. Fry the mushrooms in small batches for 3-4 minutes, flip and fry 2-3 more minutes.
  7. Transfer fried mushrooms to paper towels to drain excess oil.
  8. Serve mushrooms with ranch dressing and additional dipping sauces.
