Ingredients
  

For the Tofu Coating
  • 1 block Firm Tofu Pressed beforehand
  • 1 cup Soy Milk Can substitute with cashew or oat milk
  • 1 cup All Purpose Flour Use gluten-free flour for a gluten-free dish
  • 1/4 cup Cornstarch Key for crunch
  • 1 tsp Garlic Powder Can use fresh garlic
  • 1 tsp Onion Powder Shallots can be a fresh alternative
  • 1/2 tsp Salt Use sea salt for better taste
  • 1/2 tsp Ground Black Pepper Swap in white pepper if desired
  • 1/4 tsp Cayenne Pepper Omit for less heat
  • 1 cup Panko Breadcrumbs For the best crunch
For the BBQ Glaze
  • 1 cup Vegan BBQ Sauce Store-bought or homemade

Method
 

Step-by-Step Instructions
  1. Press the firm tofu for 30 minutes to remove excess moisture.
  2. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) and prepare your baking sheet with parchment paper.
  3. Slice the pressed tofu into triangles or preferred shapes.
  4. In a large bowl, whisk together soy milk, flour, cornstarch, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, black pepper, and cayenne pepper until smooth.
  5. In a separate bowl, combine panko breadcrumbs with a pinch of salt and pepper.
  6. Coat each tofu piece with the batter, then roll them in the breadcrumb mixture.
  7. Bake the coated tofu pieces on the prepared sheet for 20 minutes until golden brown.
  8. Toss the tofu pieces in vegan BBQ sauce and bake for another 10 minutes.
  9. Remove from oven, brush with any remaining BBQ sauce, and allow to cool slightly before serving.
